Simple but impressive no bake dessert

My signature dessert used to be Strawberries Grand Marnier. Then I developed a sensitivity to all types of alcohol. I played with my recipe to come up with a non alcoholic version that would be just as satisfying. What could be better than homemade whipped cream over strawberries marinated in Grand Marnier?  As it turns out, orange juice with a dash of dried orange peel also works very well. It is so simple and when served in crystal goblets, very elegant. Add angel food cake to the original recipe and it will be immediate hit.

What you need

1 quart fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons sugar or Splenda
1/4 cup orange juice or 4 tablespoons Grand Marnier
1 pint heavy cream
2 tablespoons confectionery sugar
1 teaspoon real vanilla
1/4 teaspoon orange rind
1 angel food or pound cake

Directions

Clean and slice two quarts of fresh strawberries. Place in a bowl and sprinkle with two tablespoons of sugar or Splenda if you prefer. Add a quarter cup of orange juice (or four shots of Grand Marnier), toss and cover bowl. Allow half an hour for the flavors to meld together.

Whip a pint of heavy cream, add one teaspoon vanilla, two tablespoons of confectionery sugar and a quarter teaspoon orange rind.

Take a store bought angel food cake and cut it into cubes or simply tear into pieces. Place a couple of pieces in the bottom of the goblet, pour about an inch of strawberries and juice over them. Repeat and then top with whipped cream. This usually makes six servings.

To serve this as a strawberry shortcake just slice the angel food cake and spoon strawberries and whipped cream over for a casual and easy dessert any time of year. It also works very well using pound cake.

This is one of the easiest, most delicious desserts you will ever make. It takes strawberry shortcake to a whole new level of flavor. The combination of orange and strawberry is very sophisticated and you will enjoy the rave reviews that you get.
